A scenic cruise with fjords & glaciers.
Canada
1st & 7th stop of my world trip
My world trip starts in Canada in January 2022. I’ll fly from Amsterdam to Toronto. By then it’s winter in Canada. My initial plan was to stay for a short week in Toronto and then fly to Calgary to my Au pair family, where I’ll be staying for 5 months. But I was denied entry when I arrived in Toronto. So I changed my plan and I visited Canada again in May. I stayed in Calgary for 6 weeks and then went to Vancouver where I met up with Jaron! In Vancouver we stayed for one week and then took a cruise through the inside passage to Whittier (U.S).

My route map
My plans to do:
Stop # 1 - Toronto
Toronto, Canada’s largest city, is located directly on Lake Ontario. Toronto has a beautiful skyline, with the (literally) highlight of the CN Tower. Various architectural styles and the multicultural Neighborhoods together create the special character of the city. I was only here for a few days but I experienced many firsts. First time traveling alone, first time being in America, being stopped at customs, having fingerprints taken and first time sleeping in a hostel. Toronto, it was short, but thanks for a special and unexpected experience!

Stop # 2 - Calgary
Calgary was my first real visit in Canada. I looked forward to this moment for a long time and it was not easy, but I finally got in! And It was amazing! I stayed for 6 weeks at my “au-pair” family’s house. Calgary is one of Canada’s largest cities. It’s the economic hub of Alberta. Calgary offers lots of opportunities, like discovering the Rockies, the Badlands and enjoying the Stampede festival. I had an amazing time up here!

Stop # 3 - Vancouver
Vancouver is a city well located on the west coast, with on the other side a beautiful mountain range. It’s a city of variety in nature but also in culture. There are many cultures living in Vancouver and it has a history of Aboriginal natives. But we weren’t very fond of the city itself. It was a nice stay, but once was enough. After our visit we cruised off to our next destination: Alaska!

Stop # 5 - North America cruise
My stay in Vancouver ended with a cruise from Holland America to Whittier (U.S.). Alaska’s Inside Passage cruise sails through a dreamscape, from snow-capped peaks to calving glaciers and deep fjords to forest-covered land as far as the eye can see. It was an amazing and luxurious trip!
