The about me page. Always a thing to do, writing a blog… First of all, I’m a modest person, so I don’t like to brag about what I’m good at. What I know about myself is that I like to do things in a unique way. So I would like to describe myself in comparison to my favorite flower: the sunflower. The sunflower is a special flower that developed unique meanings across the world, but many cultures share similar views. The most common meanings include:

Seeking out positivity and strength. The sunflower turns to face the sun. Wherever light is, no matter how weak, these flowers will find it. This is a life lesson I’ll forever take with me! I am a positive person, even when times are hard I try to make the best out of it and learn from it. I’m a friendly, open and enthusiastic person. I love to look at the bright sunny side of life, things and people! Because of my enthusiasm and open character, I like to try new things!

Warmth and friendship: I have a lot of love for people, animals and nature. I find it important to be kind and respectful.  My love and caring for others digs deep. I find it hard to see others suffer. Maybe that’s why I cry a lot watching a sad (or really lovely) movie. I like to help others, whether they’re suffering or not. While caring for others, I sometimes forget to take care of myself. This is a known character trait for a nurse, just like my job; so it must suit me well. I have a loving family and friends besides me. I love them very much. I’ll always be there for them in good and bad times.  Maybe even more in bad times.

Brighten you up. I love to make other people feel good and to make them happy. Just like the sunflower. The sunflower brightens your mood through the vibrancy of the yellow or orange petals.

Zest for life and admiration. This Is something I can relate to. I have a lot of zest for life. I want to see and feel what life has to offer; good food, adventures, nature, beautiful people and so on and on. Next to this zest for life, I have a lot of admiration and respect for life. We need to care more for each other and the world.

Dutchie. Vincent van Gogh, a famous Dutch painter, loved to paint sunflowers. For him it had a special meaning, to express gratitude towards friends. Just a fun fact in relation to my Dutch heritage.
